Call it Underground, Beat, Garage Rock, Psychdelia – TIMESHIFT are all this and more. In the summer of 1983 four boys – looking lean, hungry and drug deseased – hit the scene. A few gigs later, their following had to be counted in hundreds. 1984 saw the release of “Dance The Beat” b/w “The Fall of Europe” their first single, already a classic amongst the cognoscenti. Two original compositions containing all the ingredients of the best Sixties Beat: driving guitar, offensive drums, mobile basslines and above all agressive and melodic harmony vocals, as well as certain ‘edge’ unheard in most contemporary groups. The promise was not to be overheard, although the low budget production did not exactly “force” airplay. Nevertheless, the first pressing sold out immediately and the record is to be re-released in the near future. The “Paranoid Fears In A Concrete World” LP is the second product by TIMESHIFT as well as the record to testify. TIMESHIFT are now far more than traditionalists, exhuming Sixties Beat, something they are still capable of better than all those selfappointed “New Psychedelics”. Five songs – done live in the studio – which reek of power, potential and drive. Their redesigned brand of Sixties Beat has developed into an own musical identity. Their beat goes on and on…and none of the members has reached 20 yet. Keep alert for things to come. contributed Chris Brandl 24.7.85
